The Australian Sick Things, not the British ones. Widely credited with being one of Australia's first hardcore bands, the Sick Things blended both British and American influences in a non-calculated blownout style. Various retrospective CDs have been put out and there's even a Myspace page dedicated to the band. Go there for the completely history of the band and to hear a few tracks. Dugald (vo.) and Mick (gtr.) would go on to form Venom P. Stinger, a fairly unknown but excellent band that I will be covering very soon. Oh yeah, Tim Hemensley joined the band briefly at the end of their, uh, career. Here's some liner notes he wrote (second one down the page).

As you probably already know, LA's BellRays will be doing dates in Oz with Birdman, and their Tony told me Rob definitely intends to come to the US to do some shows! Meanwhile, as I was digging around Oz's triple j radio looking for podcasts I found an archived "J File" that is a 3 hour special of Birdman abd Birdman related music and ints - plenty of full tunes, not one of those bogus too much talking specials - in fact - not only am I hearing a live version of Looking At You by 81 New Race but I heard my first ever cuts off the 96 ritualised LP!! Anyhow, it says this will be available to stream for a limited time only - and sure enough, most of the archived j files show playlists but don't stream the music portion of the past specials, just the ints in separate portions - this is the only full-on special I found so far to listen to. All great tracks, but my vote for best Sick Things moment has to go to their utterly beyond criticism cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of silence"...probably the best punk rock cover ever, and as an example of the timeless punk art of taking nice songs and turning them into crude chunks of ravenous noise, basically perfect.

I have read through one history
Each of you has your personal story; it is your history. Keeping a diary or writing your feelings in a special notebook is a wonderful way to learn how to think and write about who you are -- to develop your own identity and voice.

A long entry by Anne Frank on April 5, 1944, written after more than a year and a half of hiding from the Nazis, describes the range of emotions 14-year-old Anne is experiencing:
". . . but the moment I was alone I knew I was going to cry my eyes out. I slid to the floor in my nightgown and began by saying my prayers, very fervently. Then I drew my knees to my chest, lay my head on my arms and cried, all huddled up on the bare floor. A loud sob brought me back down to earth, and I choked back my tears, since I didn't want anyone next door to hear me . . .
"And now it's really over. I finally realized that I must do my school work to keep from being ignorant, to get on in life, to become a journalist, because that's what I want! I know I can write. A few of my stories are good, my descriptions of the Secret Annex are humorous, much of my diary is vivid and alive, but . . . it remains to be seen whether I really have talent . . .
